37 KINOFORUM – Brazilian Selection

37th KINOFORUM - SÃO PAULO INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

For this edition, 102 films were selected from among 845 submitted short films—the highest number of domestic submissions since 2020. The submitted films represent productions from 25 Brazilian states and the Federal District, offering a diverse panorama of contemporary short films in the country, featuring different generations of filmmakers, multiple perspectives on Brazil, and a wide variety of themes, regions, and styles.

The selection process for the 37th edition of Kinoforum was coordinated by the Festival’s team of programmers, who were responsible for overseeing the entire evaluation process for the submitted works and determining the final selection for each section. This year, the team comprised Viviane Pistache (Brazilian Programs), Anne Fryszman (International Showcase), Marcio Miranda Perez (Latin American Showcase) and Christian Saghaard (Kids and Teens' Showcase). The Special Programs were curated collaboratively by the Festival’s programmers in partnership with other festivals and institutions.

The Selection Committees for the International, Latin American, and Brazilian Programs were composed of Andréa Cals, Anne Fryszman, Bruno Dias, Christian Caselli, Christian Saghaard, Clarissa Kuschnir, Fabíola Andrade, Felipe Gayotto, Flavia Candida, Guilherme Cândido, Heitor Beluco, João Lucca Piovan, Júlia Couto, Lívia Leite, Marcio Miranda Perez, Matheus Pires, Otávio Osaki, Ricky Mastro, Sofia Wickerhauser, Tatiana Groff, Vitor Velloso, Viviane Pistache e Zoe di Cadore.

The selection also benefited from the valuable contribution of the students who participated in the viewing process: Angelo Pignaton, Anna Lia, Arthur Maciel, Caique Lima, Deivison Costa, Enzo Monteiro, Fernanda Ferreira da Silva, Gustavo Duarte, Jordanna Izalberti, Laiany AG, Lau Faria da Silva, Mariana Pereira, Milton Honda, Nina Varela, Rogério Oliveira, Tais Melo, Vivian Bortolozzo, Wandryu Figueredo, Yan Altino e Yas Souza.

The selected Brazilian films form part of various programs at the 37th edition of the Festival. The Brazilian Programs are divided between Brazilian Showcase, which offers an overview of recent national film production, and the Student's Showcase, which focuses on films produced by schools, universities and audiovisual production workshops. Meanwhile, the Unlimited Showcase, the Kids and Teens' Showcase and the Special Programs bring together Brazilian and international films. The official selection for these sections, as well as for the International and Latin American showcases, will be announced next Wednesday, 15 July.
