37th KINOFORUM - SÃO PAULO INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

For this edition, Kinoforum received 2,208 submissions for the International Showcase from more than one hundred countries, in addition to 276 films submitted for the Latin American Showcase. The selection features 109 films from 55 countries across five continents, offering a diverse overview of contemporary international film production. Featuring a variety of cinematic styles, aesthetics, narratives, and perspectives on the world, the selected short films reaffirm the festival’s commitment to presenting the Brazilian public with a diverse and representative selection of international short film productions.

The selection process for the 37th edition of Kinoforum was coordinated by the Festival’s team of programmers, who were responsible for overseeing the entire evaluation process for the submitted works and determining the final selection for each section. This year, the team comprised Viviane Pistache (Brazilian Programs), Anne Fryszman(International Showcase), Marcio Miranda Perez (Latin American Showcase) and Christian Saghaard (Kids and Teens' Showcase). The Special Programs were curated collaboratively by the Festival’s programmers in partnership with other festivals and institutions.

The Selection Committees for the International, Latin American, and Brazilian Programs were composed of Andréa Cals, Anne Fryszman, Bruno Dias, Christian Caselli, Christian Saghaard, Clarissa Kuschnir, Fabíola Andrade, Felipe Gayotto, Flavia Candida, Guilherme Cândido, Heitor Beluco, João Lucca Piovan, Júlia Couto, Lívia Leite, Marcio Miranda Perez, Matheus Pires, Otávio Osaki, Ricky Mastro, Sofia Wickerhauser, Tatiana Groff, Vitor Velloso, Viviane Pistache e Zoe di Cadore.

The selection also benefited from the valuable contribution of the students who participated in the viewing process: Angelo Pignaton, Anna Lia, Arthur Maciel, Caique Lima, Deivison Costa, Enzo Monteiro, Fernanda Ferreira da Silva, Gustavo Duarte, Jordanna Izalberti, Laiany AG, Lau Faria da Silva, Mariana Pereira, Milton Honda, Nina Varela, Rogério Oliveira, Tais Melo, Vivian Bortolozzo, Wandryu Figueredo, Yan Altino e Yas Souza.

The international selection is divided among the festival’s various programs. The International Showcase offers an overview of recent films from various countries, while the Latin American Showcase highlights the strength and diversity of cinema produced in the region. The selection also includes films from the Unlimited Showcase, dedicated to experimental filmmaking, the Kids and Teens' Showcase, and the Special Programs, which broaden the dialogue by showcasing different perspectives on contemporary cinema, such as the Nocturnu - Fantastic and Horror Films showcase.
